Raising Kids

I have to say that I enjoy being a mom and being at home with my children, but it's hard sometimes. It's frustrating when your children won't listen to you, won't do what you tell them to do, when they talk back to you, when they try to get their way. It's not easy being a parent and it's not easy to raise kids, the only way that I have found to get through and not lose my sanity is through God. I need to pray everyday and just talk to God, my father to help me and to guide me through this parenting journey, so that I make the right decisions when it comes in raising my girls.

Absolutely!! I actually just heard the best song this morning on the radio, it's a new song by Tracy Lawrence (yes, country till the day I die!). It's called "Up To Him" and the line that caught me said "I just work like it's all up to me and pray like it's all up to Him."

Love it.

One thing that helps me with my little one is that we have penny jars. I have one and he has one and mine started out with $5 in pennies in it. Every time he does something good, nice, special, or sweet he gets a penny or two. But every time he disobeys, doesn't listen, or talks back, etc. he loses a penny.

I have to do it in spurts because after a bit it loses its effectiveness, so I just sit them back and we come back to them in a month or so when it's new and exciting again. But it does work and whenever they do something good, even if you're not near the jar you can let them know you'll reward them by saying "Penny" or likewise, if they're bad and you're not near it, you can tell them "Penny" and typically mine straightens right up.

There are also good verses throughout the Bible that, I think, would work well for older children that can understand them.

I would wish you good luck, but you don't need it with God on your side!

I would not make it through the day without a prayer or two for strength and patience. Some days it's the only reason why I don't lock myself in a closet :-)

Welcome to SiTS! Em
