School Bus

School Bus... My 5 yr. old daughter started school this week, (kindergarten) she loves school, and she's driving me crazy about riding the "school buses" as she calls it.. BUT I'm not to thrilled about her riding the bus just yet.. plus I keep hearing these horror stories everyday on the news of kids getting ran over, bullied, etc. Am I being paranoid or is she just too "young" to ride the bus?

I'm not a huge fan of bus riding, I don't think it's safe for little kids. I remember riding the bus and sliding off the seat onto the floor when the driver would break, lol. I think if your able and willing to driver then that's your best bet. There will plenty of opportunities for bus riding during field trips :)

My mom is an elementary school principal, and I know she watches over her buses very carefully. Perhaps you could talk with your school's principal about your fears. You can work with the bus driver to make sure your daughter isn't bullied etc. Good luck!

I don't think you are paranoid at all--you do what your heart is telling you and you are doing what is best...

My son rode the bus for about a week last year...He rode with a neighbor's kid who was 8yrs old at the time (who could look after him), my husband knew the bus driver and yet there was still problems. I struggled with letting him in the first place, but he really wanted to ride the bus. We had one bullying instance (which I only knew about because the neighbor kid told me) and that's all I needed...no longer rides the bus. I am sure many places are just great, but kids are kids ya know...Good luck!

Our 3 yr old is going to a preschool program. He will be riding the bus. They have 5 point harnesses on the bus and they pick up at our door and drop off at our door. And they wont let himoff until we walk out to the bus.

Every bus is different with a different group of children so you might just have to play it by ear. Maybe you will get lucky and have a good group of kids on your bus.

I'm not a big fan on riding a bus either. I don't have my kids on them, but that's just me. If you it worries you too much, you shouldn't do it. But, if you have to have them ride it, quit stressin! :)

School bus drivers are fairly safe, and are they to protect your little one. It'll all be okay!
